Beaches in Goa

Situated on the western coast of India, Goa with its 125 kilometer long coastline is a beach loverís paradise. Most of this verdant stretch of land is dotted with stunning sandy beaches that beckon tourists for an ideal vacation in the lap of Mother Nature away from the hustle and bustle of the busy cities.

A yearly stopover for thousands of tourists from across the globe, the beaches of Goa are the regionís most significant tourism aspect and offer such irresistible options as thrilling water sports, sumptuous sea food and endless hours of rejuvenation in the serene surroundings.

Goa beaches can be broadly classified into two categories, the North Goa beaches and the South Goa beaches. Both the sides are frequented by a large number of tourists with the only difference being that the beaches in the north host a lot of parties while those in the south are relatively calm and appeal to those who are looking for a laid back vacation.

Some of the must visit beaches in Goa include:

Anjuna Beach:
Famous for its trance parties and painted trees, Anjuna beach, located 8 km from Mapusa is ideal for those looking to dance the night out.

Baga Beach:
If you are one of those wanting to watch the sun setting behind the shimmering blue water with just your loved ones for company, then Baga is the ideal place for you. The beach is located 10 km from Mapusa.

Bogmalo Beach:
Though it still seems just a tiny beach resort when compared with some of the other beaches in Goa, it is this very fact that makes it irresistible for those looking for seclusion. The beach is also known to be safe for swimming.

Calangute Beach:
The beach, which is also the stateís busiest commercial resort, is located just a 45 minutes drive away from Panaji. Once a quite fishing village, it became a favourite spot for the hippies during the 1970s.

Colva Beach:
Located 39 km from Panaji, Colva is one of the most romantic beaches in the state. The 20 km stretch of golden sands and rows of swaying palms make it a must visit.

Dona Paula Beach:
The beach is located at the confluence of two rivers and the Arabian Sea. With its beautiful rock formations and serene environs, the beach is situated just 7 km from Panaji.
Varca Beach:
The beach is a must visit for its sandy stretch and the rows of wooden fishing boats tied along the coast that make it an amazing spectacle.
