Calangute Beach in Goa

Sobriquet the Queen of Beaches, Calangute is situated at a distance of 16 km from Panaji on the shores of the Arabian Sea. The beach offers a perfect amalgamation of serene environs and luxury facilities that draw thousands of tourists to this tiny heaven.

Until a few years ago, Calangute was a favorite hangout for the hippies who headed to the place every year around Christmas. Word about the beauty of the place spread soon and it became a yearly stopover for people from around the globe. The subsequent influx of several luxury beach resorts and hotels added to the charm.

Tourist Attractions in Calangute

For the Shopaholics:
The main town houses a number of shops and stalls which sell traditional handicrafts items from Kerala, Gujarat, Kashmir and Rajasthan.

Water Sports:
Calangute is an ideal spot to try out some thrilling water sports such as parasailing, windsurfing and water skiing. The activities at the beach start from afternoon and continue till sunset.

St. Alex Church:
Situated just a short distance from Calangute beach, the church of St. Alex is famous for its two mammoth towers and a magnificent dome. The inside of the structure is an impeccable example of colonial architecture.

How to Reach Calangute

By Road:
Calangute is located just 15 km from capital Panaji and 8 km from Mapusa. Buses ply frequently between Calangute and both these places. Alternatively, taxis and motorcycles can also be hired for commutation.

Where to Stay at Calangute Beach
Calangute beach boasts of a plethora of staying options. Most of the low budget accommodation includes rented out rooms in private houses. Most of the hotel rooms have attached balconies and all the modern amenities. It is advisable to make your bookings in advance if visiting around Christmas or New Year when demand normally outstrips supply.
