Panaji Goa - Revel in the Charm

Situated on the banks of river Mandovi, Panaji or Panjim is the capital of Goa. The city is planned in a grid pattern with the fascinating Church Square as its centre. The city boasts of plenty of tourist attractions including Latin style houses that border its streets.

For hundreds of years, Panaji acted as a mere landing stage with a hilltop fort standing guard at the entrance. The city modernized rapidly during the 60s but still lacks the grandeur and bustle of some of the other major Indian state capitals. Its streets lined with trees and a charming backdrop, however, make it an ideal location for a gentle stroll.

How to Reach Panaji

By Air: Dabolim airport, situated on the outskirts of the city is connected to most of the major Indian cities through daily flights.

By Rail: Panaji is conveniently connected to other major cities in the region through a huge network of trains. The nearest railhead is located at Madgaon.

By Road: The Kadamba bus terminal located just 1 km from the city centre receives regular buses from major cities across the region.

Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws are the most convenient means to move around the city. Bicycles and motorcycles can also be rented from one of the shops opposite head post office.

Tourist Attractions in Panaji

Miramar Beach:
Situated on the way to Dona Paula, the beach is renowned for its serene environs and captivating natural beauty.

Largo da Igreja:
This church square is an immaculate example of fine Portuguese Baroque architecture. Built during the 16th century, the structure is a white edifice with a large bell between two magnificent towers.

Archives Museum:
Situated in a huge building at the Patto Plaze, the museum houses a rare collection of artifacts from the Portuguese era. Moreover, the building in itself is an architectural marvel worth admiration.
