Goa Travel Tips

While Goa is a haven of peace and tranquility that attracts tourists from around the globe, the hectic activity, chaotic traffic situation, jam packed streets and countless vendors can sometimes prove to be a nerve wrecking experience. Some deep inside knowledge or a bit of local support can help a great deal in such a situation.

It is a good idea to get a reliable guide with you who would not only help you better interact with the locals but also get you a bargain on some traditional specialties. While in Goa, be sure to keep the below mentioned points in mind.

Clothing
The climate in Goa remains warm and sunny for most part of the year. Cotton clothes are your best bet on a sunny afternoon. During the months of December and January, it can get a little cold after sunset but all you need is a light jacket or pullover.

Currency
Indian Rupees is the unit of currency used in India. Money exchange facilities are available at the airports and also at some major hotels and resorts. ATM machines are installed throughout Goa, most of which accept Visa and Master cards. Travelers cheques are also accepted at most of the places.

Health Tips
It is advisable to carry a card with your name, age, blood group etc. on it to be used in case of an emergency. Be careful of hygiene when eating or drinking. Drink only bottled water and check the seal of the bottle before buying. Fresh seafood or vegetarian food is the safest thing to eat.

Safety Tips
Never accept any consumables from strangers and keep alert of people around you at all times. Keep your documents, money and other valuables safely and away from public view. It is better to carry plastic money or travelers cheques rather than liquid money.

Other Tips
Do not give money to beggars and beware of roadside touts. All religious sites have their own restrictions and make sure to check with the officials before visiting a religious site. Make sure you check the prevailing market rates before embarking on a shopping spree.
