Margoa Goa – A Slice of History

Situated at a distance of 33 km from Panaji, Margao is the second largest city and an important commercial centre in Goa. The city was captured by the Portuguese in 17th century AD and still displays a strong Portuguese influence in every aspect of its set-up from culture to architecture.

How to reach Margao

By Air: Dabolim airport at Panaji is the nearest air connection, which receives daily flights from all the major Indian cities. Buses are easily available to reach Margao from Dabolim.

By Rail: The Margao railway station, situated just 2 km from the city centre, is a major south Goa terminal which is connected to rest of the region through regular trains. Taxis and prepaid cabs are easily available from the railway station to the main city.

By Road: State transport as well as private operators offer regular to and fro buses between Margao and other major cities across Goa.

Colva Beach :
The beach with its silvery sand and endless rows of coconut trees is a sensory treat for the visitors. Moreover, the opening of several resorts and luxury hotels in the vicinity has further enhanced its reputation as a major tourist hangout. The beach side snack shacks serve delectable Goan cuisine.

Monte Church :
The small church located on top of the Monte Hill is an architectural marvel. The top of the hill commands a bird’s eye view of the entire city.

Stately Church of the Holy Spirit :
Built by the Portuguese in 1675, the centuries old structure still casts its spell on the visitors with its brilliant architecture and interiors embellished with stucco and gilt crystal.
